“Tweede Ronde” Program

This educational program targets primarily young children in The Netherlands following a junior school curriculum. Creativity lies at the base of all activities which aim to make the children aware of the lives of their peers living in slums of developing countries. Additionally, the theme central to all activities is: rubbish. What is the significance of rubbish in the lives of children growing up and living in slums? Rubbish is initially the cause of the poor and unhygienic living conditions the children live in. At the same time however, rubbish can also be a source of income, and more importantly as a source of material for creating own (sport) games. In this specific educational program, Todos will allow the children to become inventive with the rubbish in and around their schools. With the trash they find, they will be asked to think of and develop their own sportive games and activities. This way through activity and play, Todos aims to make the children aware of broader global issues such as: hygiene, health, poverty, sustainability and the trivial significance of money. Not only does the program have an educational objective, the program further hopes to inspire the children and the various junior schools Todos visits to get more involved on the theme of sports development. In March 2010 Todos will start to visit various junior schools with the Todos bus in and around the area of Rotterdam. Throughout the rest of the year, the Todos bus will be traveling to more junior schools across the country.
