Sport Program for Guatemalan Development Since November 2009 Todos is intensively working together with various local and international organisations in Guatemala in setting up a new sports development program: the sports program for Guatemalan Development, Sports is More. The local organisations involved in Guatemala are: YMCA , Asociacion Cristiana Juvenil, Caja Ludica, Peronia Adolescente and the PSJ Program Youth and Security (an initiative by ICCO). In The Netherlands partner organisations are ICCO/KiA Nederland, The Higher Vocational School of Amsterdam and Todos. Additionally The Sports Program for Guatemalan Development works in close collaboration with Change the Game and ARCA in Brazil.
The managing syndicate for the Sports Program for Guatemalan Development is an international sports and development network, targeting the development of young leadership skills through sports and games. Sports and games have proven to contribute to the integral development of boys and girls living in marginal (urban) area’s and is considered the better alternative for youngsters as opposed to gangs. The local organisations in Guatemala involved in the managing syndicate hold many years of experience in working with children and teenagers in the slums of Guatemala City. Together with the support of Todos who has received a grant from the Dutch Ministery of Health, Welfare and Sports in support of the Sports Program for Guatemalan Development, the local organisations can start incorporating sport and games in their various programs. Colleagues of the partner organisations in Brazil, ARCA and Change the Game, are also actively supporting the Sports Program for Guatemalan Development by means of knowledge exchange on the topic of sports development in general so that young Guatemalan teenagers can soon be appointed as leaders and ambassadors of the program. Central to the intensive collaboration between the three countries, The Netherlands, Brazil and Guatemala is mutual learning and understanding.
